A Few Hours in Fukuoka

Fukuoka, Japan Our experience with Fukuoka was one of the first we experienced in Japan as a cosmopolitan city. It was very clean, efficient to navigate, but the only thing that we were missing that was what we were mainly there for was the cherry blossoms. But in lew of that, the nightly street food …

An Afternoon in Miyajima

We took a small hike around the back way to reach the pagoda, found a small clearing to pop the drone up for some shots and enjoy nature and the scenery with really no other people around till we made it down to main attraction/temples of the island.

Our Quick One Day Itinerary for Hiroshima

We started the morning off pretty early catching a train from Kyoto to Hiroshima station which was only about an hour on the Shinkansen. We had a full day planned with a walking loop around the historic sights and a highly regarded garden.

Best Way To Hike The Inari Tori Gates

Our Off the Beaten Path Guide The usual route to see the Fushimi Inari Shrine and the crowds that go with it are what we tried to avoid when we planned this off the beaten path thru-hike which allowed us to see all the same sights with a little bit more privacy. Additional Reference Photos …

Experiencing the Higashiyama Hanatouro in Kyoto

After our thru-hike, we made our way to our hotel in the Gion on district and continue out for the night on an urban hike to see the old city lit up during the spring Hanatouro festival. But first dinner! Japan compared to all our other international travels was a culinary excursion, usually with multiple …

The Best Way To Hike The Fushimi Inari Shrine and See The Tori Gates

3hr Thru-Hike Tofukuji Station to Inari Station In researching our trip to Japan, everything about the Tori Gates indicated that you should visit them via the Inari Station. We found one reference to an off the beaten path approach and spent time plotting a thru-hike via google maps and All Trails. We didn’t know what …

Praiano and the Path of the Gods

Parrocchia Di San Gennaro Luigi warmed us up with some cappuccinos, the most delicious lemon cake we have ever had, and convinced us to walk around Praiano that evening instead of heading to the larger town of Positano. We enjoyed the evening in Praiano and marveled at the beauty of this seaside church. While not …

A Day On The Amalfi Coast

Waking Up Slowly The drive to our agriturismo bed and breakfast the day before was harrowing which we soon realized was the norm for driving in and around the Amalfi coast. Seeing that the weather was not planning to cooperate, we took our time waking up at B&B Orrido di Pino. The original plan was …

‘Self-Driving Day’ – Naples to the Amalfi Coast | Diary Highlights

Eruption at Mt. Vesuvius? The front end of our trip was a whirlwind having us go from Rome to Florence to Naples in one day. Our third morning was a bit slower, and we enjoyed a brisk morning on the rooftop terrace of our Airbnb and watched the sunrise behind Mt. Vesuvius. The warm glow …

24 hours in Rome | Diary Highlights

Midnight at the Spanish Steps We arrived late in the evening to start our Italian adventure. On a jet lag fueled evening, we managed to see Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. We enjoyed them in wee hours of the morning in somber quietude; the experience was quite ethereal like an outdoor cathedral. Inside the …
