Green Flash Brewery

Circle 9 Brewing

When it comes to breweries in Southern California it’s hard to say how often we visit a new one solely on a whim. Such was the case for Circle 9 Brewing… Seeking something new we picked a name at random on a google map search of breweries near us. Circle 9 like many SoCal spots is nestled in an industrial district and located near a wide selection of authentic Asian food restaurants near Convoy St. We sampled everything on they had on tap and were quite pleased by the flavor profiles presented. We picked up a crowler of “The Prodigal” to go as we found the fruit forwardness to be quite intriguing. We will definitely go back and hopefully be there to catch some micro drone racing!

Plan 9 Alehouse

When Plan 9 first opened, I was wary that it was just trying to be Stone Gardens Lite. Over time it has won us over as a go-to weeknight place. Plan 9 is a place where everybody knows your name. Be sure to check out their progressive kegs… one of the best happy hours around!

Sunstar Hotel Zermatt

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Lovely room, excellent breakfast, and friendly staff! Highly recommend.

Quantum Brewing

To be honest I really wanted to like this place but left feeling semi-disappointed. It’s one of those places with a barkeeper/owner that has a charming accent and just feels like one of those quaint hole-in-the-wall breweries that you just want to make your home away from home. The beers were moderate… not bad not the best I’ve ever had. Worth another shot in the future.

Eppig Brewing Waterfront Biergarten

EPPIG Brewing was an airy indoor/outdoor brewery with a wide selection of beers with an emphasis on differently styled lagers. Parking can be a mild challenge in this area but we were able to find street parking within a few blocks distance. Their website had a suggested parking location or there is a lot with paid parking available for the harbor front restaurants and day fishing from the docks. Also a couple of amazing seafood restaurants within a very short walking distance! Mitch’s is our favorite although Point Loma Seafoods is great as well!

Mitch’s Seafood

I’m hesitant to even write a review about this restaurant because I don’t want it to get too popular and create an even longer line on the off occasion that we make our way down to the harbor from Escondido, usually whenever we have an airport run! Although the outdoor seating is limited and the indoor seating can feel a little stuffy at times, I still highly recommend them for their high quality, a wide variety of extremely fresh seafood at reasonable for San Diego prices. Great crudo and poke, seafood basket with calamari, crab cake, fish, shrimp, and fries! As one that tries to avoid crowds, I would recommend coming here before the dinner buzz!

Buona Forchetta

I have nothing negative to say. I thought it was a great authentic Napoli Pizza experience. We’ve eaten authentic Napolitano Pizza in Naples at a michelin-starred restaurant and I would say I enjoyed my pizza here almost more… except for not being in Italy. Excellent quality for a reasonable price that you would expect for a restaurant in Point Loma.

32 North Brewing Co

32 North’s tasting room is situated in the usual SoCal industrial setting. Conveniently located off of Miramar road it makes for an easy visit when touring several of the Miramar Breweries. Ample space with room to play games. Pricing at the full pint level was average while tasters did not equal the same value to volume. During this visit, we enjoyed Polar Opposite and Hearts & Thoughts

Mikkeller Brewing

Back in the day, this used to be the AleSmith small facility.  Since AleSmith moved to their larger facility, Mikkeller has stepped to replace its tasting room atmosphere. Standing room only barrels have been replaced with moderate seating and the general feel was that the quality of beer would be high. Yet however, it feels like it over promised and under delivered on taste and experience. Pricing on the flights makes for an expensive visit.
